I had to do a project in health class last year, I picked the humane skeleton. Me wanting to learn more about rabbits I also, wanted to learn the rabbits skeleton. In my health project, I had to memorize all of the major bones in the humane skeleton. I got my science teacher to print out a rabbits skeleton, just for fun I learned the bones and what each one does. I noticed that the two skeleton's are alike, we both have a lot of bones with the same names and propose. So, for 4-H every year we have to do an educational poster, so I compared the two skeletons, I thought I could share this with you, because I thought it was a pretty good idea for the blog.
Here is the humane skeleton:
These are the bones we learned, most people learn the humane skeleton in health class, if you haven't you can go to other web pages to learn more. Since you are humane this is pretty self- explaining, because you use your body every day. Now, below is a diagram of the rabbit's skeleton,as you compare the two you can see we have an alike structure.
This is exactly the diagram I have, as you can find we have a similar structure, yet different. #7, the Ilium, and #8, the Sacrum are to add support to the the femur (leg), and tarsus (the foot). Humans do not have a Ilium or Sacrum so that is one difference. #9, the Caudal Vertebrae is just the back end of the rabbit, right above the tail. #10, the Calcaneus, is just the small piece of bone where the joint from the tibia meets the Tarsus. #20, the Cervical Vertebrae is just like a humans neck, but a rabbits neck is a lot more curved, as a persons is not. #21, the Atlas is the bone that helps support the brain from falling out of the skull (Cranium). And #23, if you did not know what the Maxilla was,(I did not) all it really is, is the bone that supports the nose area to the skull (Cranium). I hope this was fun for you to learn, this may also help you in case of a Vet.emergency. I know that I enjoyed learning about the rabbit's skeleton, I hope that you did too.
