I have talked about a rabbit diet before, just now I found out our rabbits were not getting enough feed for the active breeding rabbits. I found that our rabbits were not getting the nutrition that they need to be produce-full rabbits. So, I sat down with my feed Manuel and A.R.B.A standard of perfection and saw most of my rabbits were under weight and not getting enough feed. So I made some decisions AND made a rabbit food pyramid, just like people rabbits need a variety of foods to stay healthy and active. Here is what I designed:
This is self- explanatory its self. The grass and hay make up most of the rabbits diet, the rabbit needs fiber and grass and hay is the easiest way to get it naturally, ALL rabbits should have unlimited grass or hay at all times. The Veggies section includes any veggies that a rabbit can consume: Celery, Carrots,Lettuce (not iceberg), Spinach, and so on, but be careful if you are not sure your rabbit can eat it DO NOT give it to him, just to be safe. A rabbit should get about 2 or 4 veggies a day, no more than 4 veggies a day. And fruit is a big one, but be careful too much fruit can cause diarrhea. A rabbit can eat: Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Strawberries, Honey Dew, Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Kiwi, Apples and so on. A rabbit should get one fruit a day but DO NOT exceed more than 2. Now, Pellets are the important thing to grow strong healthy kits (baby rabbits) A rabbit pelleted feed may vary depending on the weight, age, sex and breed of the rabbit. Different feeds have different measurements. About .5 of a once per pound or 2/3 of an once per pound are good. An now to other, this includes things such as: Water-> a rabbit should have access to clean water at ALL times, Salt, yes rabbit will crave salt, medications and so on. If you can not offer all of this food do not fret, because if you have a good pelleted feed your rabbits should be OK.
